New White Paper on future of metrics available for review

This paper looks at the options available to us for developing PUE and the definition of 'useful work'.

PUE has become established as the dominant measure of data centre efficiency. However, it only captures a relatively small part of the overall efficiency, this limited scope restricts the value of reporting PUE and can be quite misleading if it is misused to compare data centres. PUE  was not designed to consider other aspects such as the energy supply to the data centre or the efficiency of the supported IT equipment. Whilst PUE was adopted relatively quickly by the industry progress towards metrics which capture more of the data centre activity has stalled.
