IT Efficiency & Challenges for Next Generation Data Centres

The DCSG has arranged for Michael Rudgyard, the CTO of Concurrent Thinking Ltd to give us a presentation on data centre metrics. 

We will also be joined by Andy Lawrence of the 451 Group. Andy was one of the first analysts to recognise the DCIM category and has published a number of reports on the various players in the market and the 451 Group view on how the DCIM market will evolve.

This presentation will focus on data centre power efficiency, discussing existing metrics but considering a class of metrics that would allow managers to understand how efficient a data centre is in delivering real business benefit. We discuss why this requires us to monitor and manage IT systems and facilities in an holistic fashion, and the benefits and challenges of doing so. Finally, we consider likely issues for next-generation 'scale-out' data-centre in which there may be many 10s of thousands of servers.
