Welcome to the BCS Data Centre Specialist Group website. The Data Centre Specialist Group (DCSG) is a voluntary membership group within the British Computer Society (BCS). We are now into our four year with over 900 members representing the data centre industry mainly within the UK and EU although we have an ever increasing number of international members. The DCSG has rapidly become the predominate independent voice within the data centre industry, working closely with owners operators, policy makers, advisers, consultants as well as many other organisations. The DCSG led the discussion in the UK in the sustainable IT debate with its research in data centre and IT energy efficiency and has spawned two further groups within the BCS focusing on specific areas of sustainability. DCSG has also provided its members with early access to white-papers, research findings, presentations and data centre cost and energy simulation software.
Joining the DCSG is free for existing members of the BCS. If you are not an existing member of the BCS, you need to join the BCS in order to join the DCSG. More information can be found by clicking "Join the DCSG" in the menu.

DCSG teams up with Green Grid, Carbon Trust, Intellect and IBM |

The hotly debated topic of the UK CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) is the topic of a joint event with DCSG, the Green Grid, the Carbon Trust and Intellect. Thursday 25th June 6pm-9pm the BCS-DCSG will host its second event looking at the impact of the UK CRC on the data centre and ICT sectors. We have a fantastic line up of speakers and panelists all of whom are passionate about the topic, although they don't necessarily all agree! Come and join in the discussion hosted by some of the industry's key names. The event is free for DCSG members. For more information and a full program click here . |

DCSG members review simulator |

DCSG Members now have access to the BCS / Carbon Trust data centre cost and energy simulator. The tool along with the simulator source code is available in 'beta' form to all DCSG members. Our aim is to refine the software based on member use and feedback to produce a full release version for late autumn 2009 which would be generally available to the public. DCSG members can log into the site and try the simulator via the web user interface. A number of demonstration/training sessions will be scheduled over the summer. |
