19th September - 6.00pm to 9.00pm Taking place at the BCS London Offices We have two speakers at this event on Energy Efficiency, the DCSG Secretary, Liam Newcombe and Anson Wu of AEAT Energy and Environment. AEAT are engaged by the UK Government and are working on the UK Market Transformation Programme and the EU Data Centre Code of Conduct. Anson will be presenting an overview of the current state of the UK MTP and the EU CoC for our members and seeking feedback on the key issues facing data centre operators in this area. The DCSG has been working on an analytical model to assess the financial and energy impacts of server power efficiency and improved power to load linearity that many vendors are currently pursuing. We will be publishing a white paper on this subject for public review. Liam Newcombe will be presenting an overview of the findings and model to members prior to public release. The model is designed to assess the lifecycle cost and energy benefits of various server designs and deployment approaches such as virtualisation in a highly configurable tool. One of the key outputs of the analysis is the ability to accurately reflect the mixed IT and Facilites costs of server hardware to demonstrate to business that purchasing decisions must include facilites as well as IT as the IT costs no longer dominate the ownership cost. The model provides a range of outputs, from simple overall cost charts for presentation to senior management to demonstrate real solution costs through to M&E specialists deciding on power provisioning approaches.
